Five minutes from our Superior Rural House is Cortegana, a charming Andalusian village in the province of Huelva. Located in the heart of the Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche Natural Park, declared a Biosphere Reserve.

In the village, we have several interesting spots, among them the Cortegana Castle, a medieval fortress built at the end of the 13th century, and declared a Site of Cultural Interest. You can visit the perfectly preserved interior, with antique furniture and tapestries, which will transport the visitor to the Middle Ages. It hosts various events throughout the year, but it is in August when this castle comes alive and becomes the main stage for the Medieval Festival. Throughout four days we will find minstrels and maidens who walk the streets of Cortegana, holding a variety of events inspired by the period, such as dinners, markets, games, tournaments, chess games, concerts, theatrical performances and exhibitions.

For a complete tour we can also visit the parish church of Divino Salvador, the hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Piedad, the church of San Sebastián, the hermitage of El Calvario and the bullring.

You can check all the detailed information about Cortegana’s points of interest on the Town Hall website.
